Machine Learning for Human Health
The Coronavirus Deep Learning Competition is an initiative hosted by Sage Health, an organization with a mission to help treat, prevent, & cure all human disease by the end of the 21st century. It was founded in February 2020 by Siraj Raval and Dr. John Billings. We plan on assisting healthcare providers in both volunteer and paid projects, involving our growing community in as many related initiatives as possible every step of the way. This Coronavirus Competition is our first initiative, and we'll be donating samples of the winning compound to the Wuhan Institute of Virology for further analysis. We hope to see your involvement!
When is the competition?
The official start date is February 17 at 12 PM PST. The official deadline for submissions is March 2 at 12 PM PST. Anyone can join in at any point during the competition.
Can I join as an individual or a team?
Both! We expect mostly teams, but individuals can join as well.
What is the objective?
Find a candidate drug (ligand) with a high binding affinity with the COVID-2019 main protease. A few studies have shown that HIV antivirals offer promising results, but this is still an open field of discovery. Use machine learning to identify a potential candidate, then use docking software to compute the binding affinity between it and the main protease. Write a report that describes your candidate molecule, the process you used to generate/validate it, and results in detail in the form of a jupyter notebook.

What are the eligibility requirements?
None! Anyone, in any country, of any age can participate.
What are the judging criteria?
We are judging based on reproducibility, documentation quality, and the antiviral feasibility of your candidate molecule
